Mallorca airport sets new record for 4th consecutive month

More than three million passengers passed through Mallorca's Son Sant Joan Airport in September

Four weeks ago we brought you the news that in August, Palma de Mallorca airport Son Sant Joan had set a new record for holiday makers passing through the airport, travelling to popular holiday resort destinations such as Magaluf and Platja de Palma. And now, September has seen Palma airport beat passenger records for a 4th consecutive month with more then three million passengers travelling through the airport.

The airport handled a staggering 2,917,877 passengers in June, 3,435,936 in July, 3,494,008 in August and 3,033,097 in September. These figures are very encouraging for the tourism industry in Mallorca and Septembers figures are up by 3.1% from last year. It is expected that Mallorca's hotels will see a similar increase in occupancy rates for this period.

Palma airport has seen around twenty million passengers in 2012 so far, this is up 0.4% from last year. An increase in international flights and decrease in domestic flights has been noted, as the Spanish have travelled 9.8% less between January to September this year compare to 2011.

The Spanish Airport Authority (AENA) have said that this is the first time Palma has seen so many passengers in the month of September.

It's not just Mallorca that has been benefitting, Ibiza has also had an increase of 1.1% passengers compared to last September.
