Plans for a new motor racing circuit in Mallorca have received a boost from one of the sports most prolific developer of circuits, Frenchman Philippe Gurdjian. Mr Gurdjian has visited Majorca to inspect the proposed site near Llucmajor and has now submitted a formal proposal to create the track. He has previously been involved with the construction on Malaysia's Sepang Circuit (1998), Bahrain International Circuit (2004) and Abu Dhabi (2009).

Mallorca is keen to build a world class racing circuit and hopes that it will be considered for inclusion in the Formula 1 calender after 2014. Officials from the circuit met with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone in July to outline their proposals to host the European Grand Prix once the current contract with Valencia runs out in 2014. No announcements revealing the success or otherwise of this meeting were forthcoming.

The track would be privately funded with the support of local government. The track is intended to be 5.8km long with 15 turns, and would use recycled tyres and glass in the manufacture of the asphalt for the track surface. Lakes in the centre of the track would collect rainwater, and the facility would include the construction of a hospital and a helipad. The total cost is estimated to be €90 million.
