Rafael Nadal left Palma Airport yesterday heading for Canada and his first tournament in 7 weeks.

The Mallorca tennis star was heading for Canada and the Rogers Cup Masters Tournament in Montreal. Nadal won this tournament in 2005 beating non other than Andre Agassi but Nadal has not played in a competition since his first round exit from Wimbledon this year.

“I will try to arrive competitive in Montreal,” said Nadal to press, “because seven weeks without playing isn’t ideal for competing in such a difficult tournament, with the best players in the world. But I’ll do everything possible for things to go well.”

The tournament will also be the first for defending champion Novak Djokovic since his Wimbledon final defeat earlier this summer. At the moment it looks uncertain whether Roger Federer will play due to a back injury and Frenchman Jo Wilfred Tsonga has already withdrawn.

After his excellent start to the season, winning his eighth French Open title, his first round exit at Wimbledon must have been a disappointment to Nadal. Could this competition be the beginning of a mid-season comeback for Rafa, ahead of the US Open at the end of the month? We'll have to wait and see, but to be honest we want Andy Murray to win.
