The roof of the LLuc Santuari was destroyed last year due to 'cap de fibló', a freak tornado that passed through the Tramuntana mountain range. Now, almost seven months on, the works to restore the Lluc Santuari are almost complete.

The last remaining restoration is of the Acolliment roof, an outdoor area where events and outdoor services are held. The Acolliment area will be complete by the time the Diada de Familia, Family Day, takes place as many families attend a Eucharist mass.

The Sanctuary has benefited from the 'teula' whereby visitors to Lluc sanctuary can donate a roof tile for €2 with which they could write a message before it get's attached to the roof. Around 200,000 roof tiles have been donated with messages from people visiting from the UK, Germany, South America and many other countries.

The total costs of the works have been in the region of €980,000. There are around 200,000 tiles leftover, 50,000 of which had been donated by visitors. The Sanctuary has not received any money from the insurance company for the repairs and has relied on fundraising events and donations in order to raise money for the work completed.
