A female tourist, whose nationality has not yet been disclosed, was raped in the popular resort of Magaluf last week. The attack, which took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning, is thought to be linked to five similar incidents, reported over the last three years. Police are awaiting the results of DNA tests to confirm their suspicions.

In 2008 one of the suspect's victims was a British girl who had come to Mallorca to work in a bar just six days earlier. The young girl, who waived her anonymity to speak out about her ordeal, was stabbed and strangled during the assault. DNA evidence also linked the rapist to an attack in 2010.

The suspect is said to be tall, athletic and dark-skinned. He targets young, unaccompanied women as they head back to their apartments or hotels in the early hours of the morning. Police have increased patrols at night and holiday makers are being warned to be vigilant.
