Mario Mola was born in Palma de Mallorca 28 years ago. Last Sunday, he won his third World Triathlon Series Championship in a row, maintaining his title as world's number one triathlete in the ITU ranking.

The Mallorcan sportsman won four races during the 2018 season and was second at the final challenge in the calendar, the Gold Coast race, which meant he finally secured the world title. “I have a lot of feelings,” Mola said. “It has been a great season and finishing with a second place behind my training partner, it was a great race. I’ll try to make it four in a row next year and it's in my hands to come back next year and be better.”

Hailing from Mallorca, it's no surprise that Mola is the best triathlete in the world. The island has the perfect conditions to train, from the Serra de Tramuntana's gruelling mountain climbs, famous among cyclists, to more than 500km of coastline and over 200 beaches opening onto the warm Mediterranean waters, as well as a balmy climate year round.

Congratulations Mario! Here's to your fourth world title next year.
