Santanyí hosts a celebration for Sant Jaume (Saint James) that combines traditional festivities with workshops, live music and sports events.
The Festes de Sant Jaume are celebrated across Mallorca each July in honour of the patron saint. Santanyí, in the island's south-east, hosts one of the livelier local programmes, drawing visitors alongside the local community.
Festivities typically include a mix of traditional and modern events, from cultural workshops and local sports to live music, parades and community gatherings. A highlight is the parade of giants (gegants), usually held on the evening of 24 July, followed by concerts and evening entertainment. Other towns across the island, including Alcúdia, also mark the occasion with their own programmes of street performances, markets and open-air events.
