Festes de Sant Jaume
For those who are staying in the south-east of Mallorca
Santanyi hosts a celebration for Sant Jaume (Saint James) that combines traditional festivities with workshops, live music and sports events.
Celebrated across Mallorca in honour of Saint James, the Festes de Sant Jaume mark one of the island’s key summer festivities. While many towns host their own programme of events, Santanyí in the south-east is one of the places where visitors can experience a lively and authentic celebration.
Festivities typically include a mix of traditional and modern events, from cultural workshops and local sports to live music, parades and community gatherings. A highlight in Santanyí is the parade of giants (gegants), usually held on the evening of 24 July, followed by concerts and evening entertainment.
Other towns across the island, including Alcúdia, also celebrate Sant Jaume with their own unique programmes, often featuring street performances, markets and open-air events that bring the local community together.
