Calonge is a small village in the south-east of Mallorca, close to Santanyí and Cala d'Or. They celebrate their annual village fair in September.
Far from a single day's celebration, this is a month-long calendar of local life: expect the traditional walk, ride or cycle to Mondragó, lively verbenas with live bands and DJs, children's afternoons, poetry and cultural events, cake and pamboli competitions, a community supper, and Sa Fira de Calonge, the village's own artisan and organic-produce fair. Folklore runs deep here too, look out for the striking traditional dance of the devil and archangels ("Dimonis i Arcàngels"), performed alongside xeremiers and giants during the opening parade. It's an unpretentious, authentically local celebration, a chance to see a genuine slice of Mallorcan village life away from the coastal crowds, with something on the program for almost every taste and age.
