Spanish airport authority, AENA, confirmed that a Jet2 aeroplane made an emergency landing at the Son Sant Joan airport in Mallorca on Thursday.

The Manchester bound plane took off from Ibiza at 11.39 yesterday morning. A spokesman for the airline said the diversion was a precautionary measure ‘following a technical fault indication'. Press reports indicate that a fire had been seen in one of the engines.

Emergency services were on red alert at the airport. Fortunately the landing went smoothly and all 180 passengers disembarked safely. Jet2 flew a replacement plane to Palma to ensure the safe return of the passengers to the UK.
