Magalufs Police Chief Arrested on Corruption Charges

The summer scandal in Magaluf continues with Chief of police and two colleagues arrested

After a summer we'd rather forget for bad publicity from Magaluf's misbehaving tourists, with photos and videos surfacing on the internet, it would be nice to think that no more bad news would be coming out of Magaluf this year. However with the chief of police and two of his colleagues being arrested recently after being accused of accepting bribes and manipulating evidence, it only makes for more scandal.

On Monday this week the Guardia Civil took José Antonio Navarro in for questioning, after some local business owners in Punta Ballena had come forward to accuse the police of trying to extort money from them. They have also accused the police of using over excessive force on either them or their customers.

Navarro apparently later named two other police officers from the dog squad as having been involved in turning a blind eye to drugs being found on the premises of one of Punta Ballena's bars, after a video of them in action surfaced this week.

As well as the current chief of police being interviewed, suspicions have also been raised about the former chief who now looks after the Marratxi district. Computers have been seized and emails are being looked over by investigators as the case unfolds.
