Figures have been released detailing the number of British residents of Mallorca on 1st January 2012. The estimation was done using the local Padron list for each town council.

The number of British residents in Mallorca has decreased since 2011 figures with a loss of 187 people. Calvia has seen the greatest decline with 487 people leaving the area.

The districts that have seen an increase in British residents are Palma with 101, followed by Pollenca with 38 new residents and then Santanyi with 37. Calvia has 487 fewer followed by Capdepera losing 12 residents and Llucmajor losing ten British residents.

The German community still dominates the foreign residents table in the Balearic Islands with around 36,758 registered with their local Padron. This is then followed by the Moroccan community with 24,270 residents and then the Brits with 23,804.

Many South American residents are leaving Mallorca as a lack of jobs has made it tough for them to stay. There are now approximately 42,700 South Americans in Mallorca. South American governments have been offering repatriation schemes to help their people return.

Whilst the number of foreign residents in the Balearics has fallen, it still has the highest number of foreign residents in Spain. The total population of Mallorca is 876,147 (1 January 2012).
