RCD Mallorca off to good start in this years league

Two goals from Tomer Hemed starts the Mallorca football season with a win

It was Tomer Hemed with a goal at the beginning and end of Saturdays match against Espanyol that secured the win for RCD Mallorca in their first match of the season. The Isreali international scored after just two minutes. A first half equaliser from Espanyol's Mubarak Wakaso kept the scores level until the closing minutes of the game when Hemed struck again in the 85th minute to ensure that Mallorca finished the game victorious.

Saturday nights game was played in the Mallorca Iberostar stadium and kicked off Mallorca's season. Although just a small island Mallorca plays in La Liga with former European Champions Barcelona and Real Madrid. Last year the Mallorcan team finished 8th in the league missing out on a place in the top three by just eleven points but sitting forty eight points behind eventual winners Real Madrid.

Spanish football is enjoying something of a golden age at the moment and Spain's recent European cup win left commentators saying that the national team was one of the greatest ever. You can catch Spanish football in action here on Mallorca as La Liga will now run until Jan 13th. Real Madrid will be playing in Mallorca on October 28th and Barcelona will take on the islanders here in Palma on the on November 11th.

The next game at home for Mallorca is on September 3rd when they will play Real Sociedad.
