Santueri castle it is set to open to the public once again, after its doors were closed for over a decade.

The historic fortress had been deemed unsafe after it fell into disrepair. A lack of investment by owners, the Vidal family, saw the building deteriorate rapidly in recent years. There was even an attempt to transfer ownership by the previous council of Mallorca. This prompted the family to undertake emergency repair work and render the heritage site safe for the public.

Renovations focussed on the façade of the castle which was in danger of collapse. Damp problems in the towers and dungeons have also been treated. The heritage site was declared safe for public viewing during an official visit by council representatives last week. The mayor of Felanitx also attended, as well as members of the Vidal family.

Work is now being finalised and the castle is due to re-open in the coming months. Visitors will be guided through the property, allowing them to see the main attractions within the castle and to benefit from the fabulous surrounding views. On-going repairs are expected to be funded by money generated by the entrance fee.
