Pizzeria Vivaldi, in Portals Nous, wins first prize
The second edition of 'The Best Pizza in Mallorca' contest took place yesterday in Palma. Chef Flo, from Pizzeria Vivaldi in Portals Nous, was chosen as the winner.
Originally from Italy, Flo presented a very simple recipe. His pizza 'Mamma Mia' includes the traditional 'pomodoro' and mozzarella cheese base, plus 'taleggio' (an Italian semisoft cheese), 'speck' (smoked cured ham), porcini mushrooms, 'grana padano' cheese slices and truffle oil. Pizzeria Lounge Bar Tentazione, in Palma, got the second place while El 44 Restaurant, in Colonia de Sant Jordi, was third.
The contest's finalists were chosen amongst all the Italian restaurants in Mallorca thanks to their clients' votes. Over 12,000 votes were cast, selecting 11 restaurants to compete in the last round. This involved the production of the pizzas in situ, with a time limit of 15 minutes. While the jury deliberated, Danilo Pagano, three-time acrobatic pizza world champion, entertained the public with his impressive skills.
