Lennon married his first wife, Cynthia, in 1962 after originally meeting at art school in 1957. It is unknown where Cynthia lived in Mallorca as she has always led a private life, however it is known that she has been resident there for some years.

Her son, Julian Lennon, said that she passed away after a ‘short but brave battle’ against cancer. All the Beatles were present at their wedding in 1962, however it is said that fans didn't even know that John Lennon was married with a son. Julian was born in 1963 and sadly Cynthia and John were divorced in 1968 when John met Yoko Ono.

Cynthia was given custody of Julian during the acrimonious divorce settlement, which also saw her being paid £100,000. Despite their situation Cynthia remained a supporter of their music and talent.

Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney said: "She was a lovely lady who I've known since our early days together in Liverpool.

"She was a good mother to Julian and will be missed by us all but I will always have great memories of our times together."
