Limited Parking Area in Felanitx Protects Beaches
The local council have placed 25 large rocks to mark off parking areas
Due to the vast number of vehicles parking just in front of the beach at Portocolom, the Felanitx City Council asked the coastal authorities to take action.
On Thursday stones were installed leaving only a strip of parking between the road and stones. The intention is not to create an official parking area, but instead to limit the number of vehicles who were entering this area of natural beauty.
The beaches of Babo and s'Algar in Portocolom are just two of the areas included in the list of Natural Areas of Special Interest (ISNA). During the summer months they attract a great number of visitors and with them come a great number of vehicles. And, in recent years, vehicles have been invading a large area of land for parking. With the stones now present it is hoped that the vegetation that continue to grow and flourish without the adverse affect of human visitors to the area.
