The Spanish National Sports Awards 2017 or 'Premios Nacionales del Deporte' were announced yesterday. These prizes are granted to Spanish athletes for their outstanding achievements during the previous year.

The King Felipe Award was given to Rafa Nadal for his achievements in 2017. These included winning the French and US Opens as well as the Monte-Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid and Beijing Masters. He also climbed back up to number one in the ATP ranking that year. It is the third time Nadal receives this prize, after 2006 and 2008.

The Manacor born tennis player can boast of a successful 2018 summer. Not only did he triumph at Roland Garros for the 11th time, but he also won his 33rd Masters title while retaining the number one spot at the ATP's Men Singles list. Vamos Rafa!
