Recent Storms Cause Damage in Mallorca
Parts of the island may be seeing the sun once again, but others are still grey!
The clouds rolling in across the island may have led to some fairly beautiful and dramatic images, and photographs, in recent days but the damage has been felt in several areas.
The strip in Magaluf was under 20-30cm of water yesterday as heavy rains blocked drains. Not quite the 'drip' in the water that people are hoping for on their holidays! Many businesses and homes reported flooding as well as trees and other items falling.
Meanwhile, further inland, near the town of Porreres there was damage to a local church caused by a lightening strike.
Located on top of the local mountain of Porreres in the east of Mallorca the church attracts many tourists and hikers. The bell tower of Monti-Sion Porreres crumpled after power lines leading into the church were struck, thankfully no-one was injured. The church dates back to 1498 and is dedicated to the Virgin of Monti-sion. As an important historical monument on the island the area has been secured, and will be assessed for restoration.
Today, many parts of the island are starting to look clearer with the sunshine coming though, however, the west is still looking pretty dull and drizzly. You can check out our webcam images here.
