Police representatives have stated that the chance of a terror attack in the Balearic islands is very slim. Airport authorities have also asked for public understanding, since this decision might mean longer security controls.

Spain is currently at level 4 out of 5 of terrorist threat alert, which was declared last June. Due to Friday's attacks in Paris the managerial team at Palma's airport has resolved to put into place maximum security measures.

The decision was reached on Saturday at a meeting attended by representatives of the police and the army, and was prompted by the Spanish Government's order to improve security in the country's 5 most important airports, Palma Sant Joan being the third one behind Madrid Adolfo Suárez-Barajas and Barcelona El Prat.

Even though we are in the 'off-season', stronger security measures may cause long queues. It is recommended that you to allow sufficient time if you have to fly from Palma in the next few days.
