Mallorca Fitness Training Review

Fitness training taken to a whole new level in Palma

So there it was that I found myself at the EMS studio in Palma for my first trial run.

First things first I donned a suit with short legs and no sleeves, like a tri suit, but what’s special about this suit is it has electric pads placed at all major body areas, bum (particularly major for me), stomach, back and chest, for the arms and legs you use a neoprene band strapped around the bicep/tricep and thigh/ham string with their own pads. The suit was sprayed with water to make it wet in order for the electric pulses to conduct better, a slightly chilly experience at first but once the muscles started twitching I warmed up.

Each pad is then plugged in to a control panel. After choosing my desired workout each pad could be controlled individually by way of percentages in order to focus my workout on a specific area as well an overall percentage to vary the intensity of my workout. As a beginner I started with 40% and moved up to around 60% and varied the intensity on each area throughout the workout.

I will admit the experience was a little strange, ok more than just a little, it was really strange. The electric pulses ‘hit’ my muscles not in a painful way but just quite odd, as I was going through a set of nine sequences sometimes the ‘hits’ were all together or sometimes like waves, towards the end of my workout as the intensity got stronger my arms would twitch very hard and the effects of the pulses were quite obvious. After the treatment for about twenty minutes after I could still feel a lingering twitching sensation. It’s an interesting alternative to a regular workout which i’d be keen to keep up to see results.

So what exactly did I put myself through? The technology EMS was originally used for rehabilitation and physiotherapy using electrical pulses to regain mobility or strength in the muscle, what’s different with EMS used in workouts is the frequency is doubled to 2kHz, this frequency is delivered via the conductive pads and works the muscles at cell level, essentially making the muscle twitch and giving it a workout.

The technique has become extremely popular with celebrities and also professional triathletes as the workout strengthens core muscles as well as the ones making you look buff. Some of the workouts you can choose vary dramatically from body building hypertrophy, fat burning, cellulite blasting, cardio exercises, relaxation and wellbeing. The recommended training schedule is a maximum of four times per week for 20 minutes sessions a time, it is also good to vary the type of workout to get an overall better body shape and strength.

If you fancy having a go yourself, SimplifyT is the only studio offering this in Spain and it is located at 23 Calle Pursiana parallel to the pedestrianised tapas street of Santa Catalina. Be aware that the training is not suitable for everyone such as those with pacemakers, expecting mothers amongst other things and before using this technology you are asked to fill in a consent form confirming you are fit enough to use the machine.

SimplifyT is offering free trials throughout February and are open 9am - 6pm Monday to Friday with a launch party on the 20th February starting a 6pm.
