Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus is Mary Shelley's greatest book. This is the story of Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist driven by the desire to discover the source of life and create a "perfect" being. After months of intense and profound research at the University of Ingolstadt, he creates a huge creature from body parts he has bought, stolen or traded.

Nevertheless, when he finally is able to bring the creature to life, Frankenstein is terrified by its ghastly appearance. He flees from his laboratory and falls ill for two years. On recovery, he decides to return home to his family, who notify him that his seven-year-old brother has been murdered. Justine Moritz, a young woman adopted by the family, is accused of the crime.

However, Frankenstein immediately suspects his "monster"...
