Attractive Prices Announced for the Summer Season

featured in News & reviews Author Chris Richard, Editor Updated

It has not been the best year for travel so far, with the BA strikes and that pesky volcano in Iceland. Palma airport has suffered a 16% drop in passenger numbers compared to the same month last year.  And there are additional fears that potential visitors to the island will put off booking their summer holidays because of the uncertain flying conditions. Even now, the situation with the volcano is unclear, with a new plume of ash heading towards the UK that will threaten the southern airports.

Reduced prices soften the blow
But every cloud has a silver lining and the good news is that this uncertainty has prompted many hoteliers to consider dropping their prices for this summer in a bid to encourage potential visitors to make bookings. These reduced prices are a great incentive not only for tourists, but also for local residents who are able to enjoy a weekend break in one of the islands many luxury hotels. They also arrive in time for the start of the summer schedules for airlines operating from the UK.

Increased flying schedule
BA starts it's eagerly awaited London service from London City Airport (so no strike action to disrupt services) on 24th May, and will fly three times a week on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays. Easyjet will also ramp up the number of flights from all over the UK to Palma from 17th May.  Jet2, BMI Baby and Ryanair also operate flights from regional airports in the UK.
