Bargains galore as Mallorca sales start tomorrow

Shoppers in Majorca are set to enjoy massive savings in the shops this weekend as the January sales begin tomorrow. Discounts of between 30% and 50% are promised as businesses try to encourage customers into their shops. After a disappointing Christmas sales period, retailers are optimistic that January will allow then to recoup some of their losses and kick start their year.

Ones of the reasons for the optimism is that today is a National holiday for The Epiphany and many people will be taking tomorrow off to enjoy an extended break into the weekend, allowing them to take advantage of the start of the sales. In addition, shops will be open this Sunday, so customers can enjoy three full days of bargain-hunting in their favourite stores. As consumers watch their pennies, it is expected that many will take advantage of the lower priced goods on offer in the shops and supermarkets.

With 90,000 unemployed, the picture is not all rosy. Data from the government also shows that 136 retail outlets were forced to close last year, with additional closures expected this year before the sector enters recovery.
