Great start to the summer in Mallorca and Russian invasion expected
Hotels in Mallorca reported record numbers this May with the Balearics posting 64.8% occupancy, the highest in Spain.
There was a 6.9% increase in overnight stays from last year with Mallorca enjoying over 5million overnight visitors, 1.8m of which stayed in hotels in Palma de Mallorca or Calvia beach resort hotels.
An encouraging start to the summer but there is more good news on the horizon for Mallorca's Tourism industry. In response to demand from tour operators and hotel groups the Spanish Foreign Ministry has opened up a new visa centre in Moscow to process more tourist visas for Russians wishing to visit the Balearics. As a result the number of Russians visiting Mallorca this year is expected to be 50% higher than last year.
With the infulx of Russian money can we can expect to see more bling on the beach and more yachts in the water? In recent years few people have holidayed like the Russians.
