Mallorca is well known to be a busy island during the summer months but in recent years, the months from February-June and September-November have been fairly busy with a different sort of tourist - the sporty type. And now, Calvia town hall wants to promote it's town as an ideal location to base yourself on both hiking and cycling holidays.

Set in the south western part of the Serra Tramuntana mountain range, Calvia has much to offer hikers and hillwalkers and has mapped out a further 11 well sign posted hiking routes. These routes will let tourists sample the beauty of the flora and fauna of Mallorca, including the delicate ecosystems that are home to tortoises and vertebrates.

An additional five cycling routes have been mapped out, leaving and returning to the Calvia region and it is hoped that hotels in the area will benefit from the councils efforts in attracting low season tourists. The council have published leaflets detailing the routes which are available from most information stands, events and festivals. Further information about sports in Calvia can be seen at www.visitcalvia.com

The plans to attract winter tourists and specifically those interested in sport will hopefully attract more people to the other great sporting facilities in the area such as the running track, rugby pitch, tennis courts and golf courses.
