The Casino de Mallorca will be relocated from its current home in Magaluf, Calvia, to the Port Pi centre in Palma by the end of February 2011. The Port Pi centre's cinema complex is being converted for the relocated casino, and the refurbishment is now in its final stages. There will be a total area of 2700 square feet over two levels, with the ground floor area (2300 sq ft) being devoted to gaming tables and a restaurant.

The move was considered necessary as the casino's current location near Magaluf was thought to be too far from the main hub of Palma de Mallorca. However, there was controvesy in choosing the Porto Pi shopping centre as its new home because of a Balearic law stating that casinos should be located on the outskirts of cities to prevent easy access to minors and those with gambling addictions.

There is some opposition to the reloction of the casino in Palma from bingo hall owners and other smaller arcade owners. They have concerns that the casino will take their clients and force closures and job losses. Once open, the casino will employ around 165 staff.

The original casino in Magaluf, Majorca will now be used for leisure purposes and entertainments shows - the Broadway show 'Come Fly with Me' is based at the hall.
