Deia faces severe water shortages

featured in News & reviews Author Nicola Henderson, Site Editor Updated

Deia's town council has announced that due to water shortages in the region, the water supply will be cut off overnight for the next week. The water sources for the area are from Es Moli & Es Verger and both are running low. As a precautionary measure, the water supply will be cut off overnight from 8.00pm to 9.00am for the next week, with the possibility of a full day being included.

The mayor has asked local businesses to take great care in the consumption of water, and has also asked that water is not used to top up swimming pools or used to water gardens.

Council water trucks will be used to top up the local reservoirs during the daytime to ensure supply for human consumption. Some local businessmen have accused the council of acting too late and that the mains water is not of good quality. They say that the dirty water has caused damage to their equipment and that the council has not met its basic obligations to it's citizens by providing a continuous supply of clean water.
