Eight Euros Extra For Mallorca Cakes on Ryanair

Another charge from the low budget airline hits Mallorca Airport

As if there weren't enough troubles looming over Mallorca's Airport with air traffic control strikes threatened this summer Ryan Air has decided to impose additional hand luggage charges, on cakes!

The traditional Mallorcan ensaimada is often sold in the airport and there are stalls after the baggage drop-off where they can be purchased as a last minute holiday souvenir. But the pastry does not conform to Ryan Airs hand baggage policy which states that: "Strictly one item of cabin baggage per passenger (excluding infants) weighing up to 10kg with maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm is permitted."

The Airline has decided that if your sugary Mallorcan pastry does not fit in your hand luggage then an additional €8 must be paid to take the treat on board. So if you are planning to fly home from Mallorca with an ensaimada make sure it fits in your bag, or eat it at the boarding gate.
