Free Wifi on The Playa de Palma

29 WiFi boxes in a 5 kilometre area along the beach

Palma council have officially launched free WiFi access on Playa de Palma beach this week, making it the largest beach in Europe to have internet access.

Internet access will be available free of charge to residents and tourists 365 days and round the clock.

It's apparently cost the council 300,000 euros to install the 29 WiFi stations along the ~5km length of the beach, which will allow around 100,000 connections per day in high season.

There are already WiFi spots on some of Calvias beaches in the high tech lockers that were installed last year, so perhaps we'll see more of this initiative going forwards on the Island and further afield.

All we need then is for roaming charges to be dropped across Europe and WiFi zones in more public areas, wouldn't that be nice..!
