Calvia Town Council has secured an investment of over €20m in order to modernise hotels in the south-west region of Mallorca. The council have processed 24 plans of modernisation of hotels and several others for smaller building works.

Of the hotels to be renovated, eight are in the Magaluf area, four in Palmanova and others are between Peguera and Portals Nous.

The plans for renovation tie in with the longterm goal of repositioning Magaluf as an upmarket tourist destination and to shake off it's stag and hen reputation. The council in Calvia also hope to open up the resort throughout the whole year so it is not affected by the drastic contradiction between summer and winter tourism.

Already the Melia Hotel chain with it's joint venture with Evertaas has completed one of it's phases to renovate some of their establishments.

Other Mallorcan resorts that are undergoing modernisation and renovations during the winter months are Cala Ratjada, Capdepera, Alcudia, Playa de Palma and Playa de Muro.
