Mallorca avoid relegation despite defeat
Atletico Madrid beat RCD Mallorca on Saturday in a 4-3 win at the Iberostar stadium. A hat trick by Sergio Aguero sealed the victory for the visiting team.
It was an exciting game with Atletico up 3-0 in the 59th minute. Mallorca fought back scoring two goals in quick succession. Atletico, shell-shocked by the turn around, brought the score to 4-2 at 79 minutes with Mallorca producing their third and final goal, a header by Webo, in the 90th minute.
Despite losing the match, Michael Laudrup's team avoided relegation after former champions Deportivo La Coruna lost at home to Valencia. Just one point separated the two teams on the final day of the season, bringing an end to Deportivo's 20 year stay in La Liga.
