Mallorca hotels to receive facelift

Winter building and renovation will bring stars to Majorca hotels

The winter plans for refit and development of hotels in Mallorca have 57 projects lined up for the island, 21% more than last year.

The recent "New Tourism Act" removes much of the complicated administration restraints that have slowed the building and renovation of hotels and apartments in the past and many hotel chains are capitalising on this. Last summer the Melia group built the new Beach House Hotel and revamped the Sol Wave House in Magaluf in just eight months and there seem to be other companies looking to follow that example.

In Alcudia the city council has already received applications for four major works and seven smaller ones and one chain, Grupotel, have invested 9.5 million Euros to refurbish four of it's hotels in Mallorca.

Grupotel currently has 34 hotels in the Balearics and the plans are that four of these in Mallorca, Taurus Park in Playa de Palma, Montecarlo in Can Picafort, the Grupotel Port d'Alcudia and the Los Principes apartments in Muro will be completely reworked with 17 smaller projects elsewhere in the Med The hotels in Can Picafort and Port d'Alcudia will change from three to four stars after the work and the Taurus in Playa de Palma will undergo a total revamp.
