Mallorca Storm Damage

Imprint
By Chris Richard, Updated

Close to four inches of rain fell over 24 hours during the storm that passed over Mallorca on Monday & Tuesday.  It left behind floods and road closures, landslides and felled trees.   In the Palma area, the Torrent Gros and Es Molinar rivers burst their banks, causing flooding and road closures.  North Mallorca was also badly hit with flooding as the drains struggled to cope with the sudden and heavy downpours, and a wall collapsed on to parked cars in Can Picafort.

Whilst the water levels have now receded, the roads agency is recommending extra care on mountain roads.  Some high speed maritime links between the Balaeric islands and the mainland were delayed, as ships waited for improvements in sea conditions.  The weather seems to have righted itself now, and after a brief rain shower this morning, the skies are brightening and further improvements are expected by the weekend.
