Michelle Obama to meet Spanish Royal Family in Mallorca

With the summer holidays in full swing, August is always a popular time to visit Mallorca. It’s also the time that the Spanish Royal Family come to holiday at the Marivent Palace in Palma. This year they will be hosting a very special visit from the wife of the President of the USA, Michelle Obama, and her youngest daughter Sasha. Mrs Obama will come to Mallorca after spending a few days relaxing with her daughter and some close family friends in Marbella, Spain.

The First Lady will arrive at the military base of Son Sant Joan around noon on Sunday, August 8, then leave later that afternoon, having lunched with the royal family (where fish is apparently on the menu). The timings of the First Lady’s arrival and departure have been carefully thought out. She will be arriving in Mallorca on a Sunday morning, when it’s estimated that most people are already on the beach. She will then depart late afternoon before most people return to the city.

Spanish security will have assistance from U.S security personnel, who plan to visit the island before the arrival of the president’s wife to detail the trip between the military base and the King’s palace. They  are also in charge of guarding the armoured presidential cars that will be sent across a few days in advance to transport the First Lady and her daughter around Palma.

It’s estimated that the visit of the President’s wife will require the assistance of around 70 people from the United States Government, for herself and her cabinet staff. Details of Mrs Obama's visit will be discussed at a meeting next Monday in the capital of Mallorca.
