More air routes into Palma announced for this year
Increase of 52 routes to Son Sant Joan airport since 2012
The owners of Palma de Mallorca's Son Sant Joan airport, AENA, have announced that there will be 52 new air routes into Mallorca this year compared with 2012. The popularity of the Balearics on the whole sees a combined increase of 88 routes across Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza.
Germany remains the country with the most connections to Mallorca, adding fourteen connections to their current 64, followed by the UK adding another seven to their current 63.
Other countries increasing their traffic include Italy, Russia, France and Norway (with four new routes each) and two routes each for Switzerland, Finland, Poland, Hungary, Austria and Ireland.
This now means in total that Son Sant Joan airport will have 339 connections from the leading airlines Ryanair, Air Berlin, EasyJet and Air Europa. The rise in popularity and flight connections has already been noticed by the Mallorca Hotel Federation (FEHM) as occupancy level of hotels for the summer season is already proving to be good, an encouraging sign.
Last summer the airport had a record number of passengers passing through, with around three million passengers in August alone, so this summer could be set to break that record all over again.
