British airline Monarch are adding more flights to Palma de Mallorca from Birmingham this summer and opening up flights to the island from the East Midlands. Monarch is filling the gap left by the struggling BMI Baby who are due to cease trading this summer if a buyer cannot be found.

Monarch Airlines will now be bringing a potential 81,000 passengers through East Midlands Airport on the routes usually run by the failing BMI Baby. The summer flight schedule has recently been anounced and Monarch will now be operating more flights to Malaga, Alicante, Faro and Palma here in Majorca.

The airline managing director, Kevin George, said, ‘In light of recent industry changes, opportunities have opened up in the market. It has become clear that the Midlands will be underserved as a region in the future, and that there is a lack of quality carriers to serve customers travelling from the area.'
