New Fire Station for Mallorca

An increase in population prompts the decision

featured in News & reviews Author Pam Williamson, Mallorca Editor Updated

City council president, Maria Salom, has proposed building a new fire station in the area of Santanyi/Ses Salines.

Apart from the increase in population in the area and thus a lack of firemen and resources to service this increase, it has also been noted that most of the fire stations on Mallorca are now more than 25 years old. Most are in need of repair, upgrades and thier functionality has been called in to question. Other fire stations that have been looked at include Inca, Calvia, Soller, Manacor, Felantix and Arta.

Since Mallorca is very active during the summer months with tourists, along with the increases risk of fire in hot, dry conditions, the increase in the Island's summer population only adds to this danger. Salom is urging that all of the stations looked at should be remodelled and repaired as soon as possible.

Good news for fire fighters on the Island, as well as for the tourists planning holidays in 2015.
