New parkland for Palma's sea front

Plans have been approved for the creation of a sea front park in the area between Palma's Parc de la Mer and Portixol. The park will be developed between the main coast road and Carrer Joan Maragall on waste land, which had originally been designated for luxury apartments.

The Park of Facana Maritima will eventually cover an area of 40,000 square metres. Two hundred Mediterranean trees are being planted and there will be trails and seating areas so that the public are able to enjoy the wonderful views out to sea. A pirate's ship will be at the centre of a children's play area at the Carrer Manuel Azana part of the park.

The first two phases of the project are expected to be completed by June. The works also include the refurbishment of the GESA building on C/Joan Maragall which will be utilised for Palma's municiapl services, such as the local police. The site lies to the west of the construction of Palma de Mallorca's new conference centre, resulting in a whole new public space being created in this prime sea front position.
