The 2012 Trip Advisor Traveller's Choice list was published recently and not only did a Mallorcan hotel come out on top of the 'family hotels in Spain' category but nine of the top ten spots were hotels on the island and there were another five hotels in the top twenty five. Fourteen of the best hotels in Spain for families are on Mallorca!
The list was based on the opinions of tourists who travel with their families and then score hotels based on a number of criteria.
The winner of the 2012 award was the Protur Bonaire Aparthotel in Cala Bona with the Aparthotel Playa Mar in Port de Pollenca coming in second and the Coma Gran Aparthotel in Sa Coma coming in third.
Mallorcan hotels grabbed all the top ten spots except for fourth; this went to a hotel in Salou, which is in the Tarragona province in Catalonia, mainland Spain. Almost more amazingly, in the same poll four of the top ten family hotels in Europe went to hotels in Mallorca.

- Viva Sunrise, Majorca
- Protur Vista Badia Aparthotel, Majorca
Now it should be remembered that this is not a critic's choice award. These hotels have been rated by families who stayed in them and in the past Trip Advisor has made some fairly wild claims; Bournemouth as the fourth best beach in Europe, Benidorm as number five!? So, feel free to take these awards with a pinch of salt but it is still an impressive result and it's clear that there are plenty of great family destinations on Mallorca.
The island has so much to offer families. With attractions like the excellent Palma Aquarium, great beaches and activities like sailing, snorkelling, go-karting and horse riding to keep children entertained, it's no wonder Mallorca topped the poll.
