Spanish hotel group, Melia Hotels International, last week unveiled plans to regenerate the popular resort of Magalluf. A massive 135 million euros is to be invested in the the new ‘Sol Calvia Resort', with a view to enticing higher spending customers to the area and boosting the local economy. The project already has the support of the regional government and local authorities.

Melia Hotels International owns 13 hotels in the area, eight of which are in Magalluf. The new resort will link six of these hotels in a huge complex. There will be new gardens, pedestrian areas and shopping centres. And leisure facilities are set to include a surfing centre with special wave pools.

The project will be privately funded by the hotel group and its partner, Evertaas. CEO for Meliá Hotels International said the company had, "the capacity to attract groups and world famous brands in the leisure and restaurant sectors.....thereby almost automatically improving the class of client."
