Public sector workers across the UK are staging a 24 hour strike today to protest about proposed changes to their pensions. The government estimates one in five of the country's 500,000 civil servants will participate in the industrial action.

UK Border Agency staff started walking out from 18.00 hours yesterday evening. As a result travellers arriving at airports and ports have been advised to expect longer wait times at passport control. Those leaving the country should not be affected as airport employed security staff are not taking action.

Earlier this morning Heathrow and Gatwick were said to be experiencing slight delays. Luton said disruption had been kept to a minimum and Stanstead said passengers had not been affected.
