Two British citizens have died when their helicopter crashed this morning (Saturday 12th November) near Andratx in the south west of Majorca. The men have been named as Mark Blaver-Mann and Alistair Evans, both aged 53. The helicopter came down in a wooded area at around 11.15 am, next to the Ma-10 road that runs between Andratx and Estellencs.

A representative from local helicopter company, Sloane Helicopters, has been reported as saying that the helicopter was owned privately, and that one of the dead was in fact the helicopter owner. It seems that he was on holiday in Mallorca and had taken a male friend up for a flight when the accident happened.

The helicopter had taken off from Son Bonet aerodrome at 10.40 am. The weather conditions were described as perfect for flying, with clear blue skies and temperatures of 23 C. Eye witnesses to the crash say that there was an explosion as the aircraft hit the ground, and the area was engulfed with flames. Firefighters were deployed to control the blaze before fire could spread into the surrounding forest.

An investigation is underway to identify the cause of the accident.
