Calvia council is attempting to gain permission to sink a decommissioned Spanish frigate off the south west coast of Mallorca and create an artificial reef that could support marine life and provide an interesting dive site for SCUBA fans on the island. The council were initially denied permission by the Ministry of the Enviroment, and the battle was taken to the Supreme Court.

Yesterday the Supreme Court ruled that the Ministry of Defense and the central government should make all the documentation pertaining to the project available in order for the case to proceed.

The warship in question is named Balears and was built in the 1970's. It was decommissioned in 2004. The case continues.
