A run down area on the outskirts of Magaluf in Majorca is to be regenerated, with plans for a total of four new hotels. Balearic president, Jose Ramon Bauza, and minister for tourism, Carlos Delgado, visited the site of the new development yesterday.

The Viva Hotels group plans to turn the land at Marina de Magalluf into a holiday complex. Different areas will have distinct themes. Construction work is scheduled to begin at the end of 2013 when Vistarga SI, the construction company involved, will begin work on the first of the four planned hotels. The project team will now work to secure permits and complete all the necessary paperwork.

The development was approved by the Balearic regional government on Friday. The privately funded project has been classified as ‘in the Balearic public interest’. It is expected to cost 144 million euros and generate 730 jobs.
