The Planets by Gustav Holst at Teatre Principal

Performed by the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears

Location
Palma de Mallorca
Imprint
Updated

The OSIB presents a new symphonic/astrological/astronomic show especially aimed at a family audience, which will combine music, theatre and videos based on the work The Planets composed by the Englishman Gustav Holst between 1914 and 1918, coinciding with World War I.

There are seven movements devoted to the seven planets known about at that time, apart from Earth (Pluto was discovered in 1930). For each planet/movement, Holst creates a composition that follows the characteristics that astrologists attribute to it. This show will have a “star” guest and will remind us how important it is to take better care of our planet.
