Busiest time of year for security forces at the island's airport

featured in News & reviews Author Pam Williamson, Mallorca Editor Updated

With seven million passengers coming through the airport in Palma de Mallorca during the months of July and August, additional security is necessary.

The National Police have 101 personnel operating at the airport, alongside officers of the Civil Guard, private security forces and of course the canine unit of the Spanish National Police. The dogs of the canine unit have been specially trained to sniff out explosives and narcotics, and are busy at work each day checking the hundreds of thousands of suitcases that pass through.

Passengers are warned to be aware of their luggage at the airport as this is also a busy time for thieves who target bags and tourists in busy pubic areas.
