Jellyfish are sometimes a problem in Mallorca due to the rising temperature of the water and the lack of predators in the Mediterranean. The Spanish government have implemented a new project to protect swimmers from their sting by installing anti-jellyfish barriers.

Playa de Muro has been chosen to test the system, which consists of a net with a series of rigid floats that create a protected area of 25 square metres where jellyfish cannot get in. The first results will show in about twenty days, and will hopefully be very positive.

The town of Muro is currently participating in another project regarding jellyfish, which aims at creating a model to predict their arrival. Together with this new protective net, they will turn the waters of Mallorca into safer places to swim.
