Pop star diva lands in Mallorca for Port Adriano Concert

Gloria Gaynor arrived in Mallorca on Saturday morning ahead of her concert in Port Adriano. She appeared relaxed and upbeat, despite a difficult journey which saw her flight from San Sebastian being cancelled the night before. Gaynor recalls the warm welcome and party spirit when she visited Mallorca three years ago and expects to have as much fun this time around.

The diva will be singing her greatest hits alongside seven musicians and her three backing singers. She will also perform new songs from her forthcoming Gospel Roots album. The venue promises to be spectacular, Port Adriano's new marina having been designed by none other than Philippe Starck.

When asked if she felt her hit I Will Survive had overshadowed everything else she'd done since, Gaynor admitted it had once posed a problem. However she has come to understand that the song is at the core of her purpose in life, which is to "encourage and empower people". The hit has been recorded by over 200 artists since its release in 1978. It doesn't matter how many times her fans have heard it, there's no doubt they will be dancing tonight.

Surgery on her spine postponed touring for a while last year. Now she is back on track and planning shows in Europe, South America and Mexico. In her late sixties and still looking fabulous, she attributes her youthfulness to "Genes and Jesus".

Gaynor gave a press conference in the stylish terraces of Hotel Melia Calvia overlooking the ocean. "Everyone knows Mallorca is beautiful," she smiled. Though the views are wonderful, the hot weather isn't ideal for an energetic performance, or for keeping her hair and makeup intact. She deals with it by concentrating on her audience and giving them the best performance she can. Despite her evident pleasure at being back in Mallorca, she won't be able to enjoy it long as she will be jetting off the day after her concert to breathe life into another stage!
