One of the opening European Ironman events may have to consider changing their route as one of the towns that it passes through in the north of the island of Mallorca has voiced objections.

The Thomas Cook Ironman 70.3 Mallorca is hosted in Alcudia and passes through the municipalities of Muro, Santa Margalida, Manacor, Pollensa, Sa Pobla, Ariany, Petra, Escorca, Selva, Caimari, Llubi, Campanet and Maria de la Salut.

The mayor of Caimari has voiced objections to the race passing through the town as the road closures mean that part of the village are stranded during the race, unable to access or exit the area and with no option to use rural roads to move about.

Mayor Tofol Barcelo has suggested remuneration for the residents of the town if it does go ahead. The Ironman 70.3 Mallorca is due to take place on Saturday 7th May 2016.
