Record Rainfall in Mallorca

After a summer of record high temperatures...the rain came...

featured in News & reviews Author Pam Williamson, Mallorca Editor Updated

Last week saw 24 hours of torrential rain in Palma and across the island of Mallorca, causing major disruption to traffic and the airport.

More than 124 litres per square meter of rain fell in just one day, breaking the record of 112.5 litres from May 2010. In addition to this on Friday Calvia saw 38.6 litres in just ten minutes. Although September is generally considered to be a rainy month in Mallorca, the first week has already seen three times more rain than is normal.

So after a summer of record high temperatures in July, one of the island's wettest Augusts, it now looks likely that September will another record breaking month...but let's hope that some of those records are for heat!
